Which browser and version do I need to use for generation and instalaltion of Comodo Code Signing Certificates?
Comodo's script to generate the CSR and Private Key via browser only supports Firefox. If the correct internet browser is not used during the generation process, you will not to be to "pick up" your certificate for installation. If you don't have Firefox and are unable to download the browser directly onto your desktop or PC, please try using Mozilla Firefox, Portable Edition. You will be able to install Firefox Portable in an .exe file on your portable drive. Just make sure you use this portable package to generate and "pick up" your Code Signing Certificate.

Why will my browser not allow me to "collect" my Comodo Code Signing Certificate?
There are a few things that could be restricting you from downloading your Code Signing Certificate:
Make sure you are using the proper browser version (Firefox). If you are using the wrong browser version, you may have to reenroll for another Code Signing Certificate.
If you used the correct browser version during the generation process, please make sure you are using the SAME desktop or PC that was used to generate your order. If you are at a different PC, the certificate will not be able to pull the previously store private key from the appropriate browser.

Does Comodo require organization or individual applicants to have an email address associated with a registered name?
Yes, Comodo requires applicants to provide an email address associated with a registered domain such as admin@domain.com. Comodo does not check your WHOIS record or require applicants to complete additional domain verification steps, but they do prefer applicants not to use personal email addresses such as Yahoo, Gmail, AOL, etc.

  • Two forms of secondary evidence to establish your identity, both of which must contain your name. One of these must be from a financial institution.
    Acceptable financial documents:
    - A copy of a major credit or debit card that is not expired
    - A copy of a recent mortgage statement within six months from a recognizable lender
A copy of a recent bank statement within six months from a regulated financial institution.

    Acceptable non-financial document:
A copy of a recent utility bill from a utility company confirming arrangements to pay for the services at a fixed asset.
A copy of a lease agreement within the last six months.
A copy of a birth certificate

A copy of a certified court order.

How will Comodo authenticaqte my organization details?

In order to complete the authentication process for you organization, Certificate Authorities must be able to validate specific details of your company to make sure you are an active formal business entity in good standing with your respective Country/State. Please see the below options Certificate Authorities use to validate your business:

  • CA's will first check to see if your organization is currently registered and displayed on an acceptable government database. For the US, this will be your Secretary of State.
  • If CA's are unable to locate your business registration on an acceptable government directory, they will then search within Duns & Bradstreet for an acceptable listing.
  • If CA's are unable to locate a business listing within Duns & Bradstreet, you will then be instructed to submit additional documents to the CA to verify: Date of Registration, Registration Agency, Legal Entity Name, and Registration/Company Number. Please send in any of the following documents to Comodo:
    • Articles of Incorporation/ Formation
    • State/County/City Business License
    • Corporate Charter License (schools, non-profits)
    • Legislation of Creation (government agency)
Note: If you are unable to locate any of the actual documents above, but know the Date of Registration, Registration Agency, etc…, you can simply contact the CA and verbally provide them with the requested information. They will then contact your respective registration body to confirm details.

If any of the documents you submit above do NOT contain the physical address of your organization, please send one of the additional documents below:
    • Copy of a recent bank statement (with organization name and address)
Note: You may black out the Account Numbers
    • Copy of a recent phone bill (with organization name and address)
    • Copy of a recent major company utility bill (i.e. power, water, etc.) or current lease agreement for the company (with organization name and address).

If CA's are unable to verify your organization details within your respective registration body and cannot verify a physical address, you will have to complete a Professional Opinion Letter attested by an Attorney, Certified Public Accountant or a Public Notary.
